Hey there momma! I know firsthand that juggling the demands of running a household and nurturing our little ones can feel downright overwhelming. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be!
I’ve designed a free weekly cleaning schedule with you in mind, a routine that understands your life isn’t simply about housekeeping – it’s about living!!
This schedule, along with my tips and tricks as a stay-at-home mom, will help you find balance, reduce stress, free up precious time, and transform your home into a well-organized sanctuary!!
Are you in?!?
What is a weekly cleaning schedule for stay-at-home moms?
A weekly cleaning schedule is your secret weapon to maintaining a perfectly clean house without losing your mind!
Think of it as your personalized roadmap, outlining the tasks to be done each day of the week, allowing you to keep your household in check without feeling overwhelmed. Rather than facing a mountain of chores all at once, you’ll tackle a few manageable tasks every day.
It’s a way to bring order amidst the beautiful chaos we call motherhood.
A weekly cleaning schedule is so important!
It provides structure and order to the otherwise daunting task of maintaining a clean and tidy home. By dividing chores into daily tasks, it prevents the accumulation of work and makes housekeeping manageable.
It also ensures all areas of the home are regularly attended to, fostering a clean and healthy environment for your family.
Plus, a clear schedule helps busy moms carve out time for themselves—a definite necessity!
A weekly cleaning schedule can instill a sense of accomplishment and control, which can significantly contribute to mental well-being as well!!
After all, a clean and orderly home leads to a clear and peaceful mind.
My weekly cleaning routine
Okay, momma, my weekly cleaning routine is pretty good! It works really well for me – so well, in fact, that my Saturday cleaning is significantly less!
And I absolutely love starting my day off with a freshly cleaned house. 🙂
Putting more time into my daily routine has freed up time for me on the weekends. I don’t have to clean as much, which is great, because I’m usually pretty busy with my boys on the weekends.
So, I start my day with my “Morning Chores”. That is literally what I call them. LOL.
Here’s what I do:
Make my bed.
Empty the dishwasher.
Wash the breakfast dishes (I fill up the dishwasher and then handwash the ‘handwashables’.)
I wipe down the table, counters, sink, and microwave.
Take out the garbage.
Make ice.
Sweep the floor.
Then I move down to the laundry room, where I sort clothes and start the laundry, or switch over the laundry if I’m still working on yesterday’s clothes.
Then I vacuum the entire house.
I used to sweep the entryways, but we now have carpet on them in our new house, so I vacuum them as well.
Then I wipe down the bathrooms. There are three of them!! So I wipe down the counters, mirrors, and the toilet. I take out the garbage and sweep, if necessary.
After all of that, I take out the meat I need for supper.
And that’s it! That helps me stay on top of my housework every day.
After lunch, I do the lunch dishes. And then I prep supper. If I have to put stuff in the crockpot, I do. If we’re having bread, I’ll throw it in the bread machine.
My evening chores are less.
I am usually beat by then. So I just do the dishes.
I go through the kids’ schoolwork, backpacks, and lunch boxes right when they get home from school. And the mail as well.
I know that’s not related to cleaning, but it is still a daily chore.
I don’t have any morning prep, really. My kids are all old enough to pick out their own clothes and pack their backpacks. I make lunches in the morning, so I don’t need to prep that either. And my husband does his own coffee prep.
So for me, it works best to do my “chores” as early as possible. I get more and more tired as the day progresses.
I’m old school; I still believe in a good ol’ fashioned “Saturday cleaning”. What can I say? It’s how I was raised!
So on the weekend, my cleaning routine looks like this:
Assign kids their chores. (I write down all of the chores and then have them initial by the ones they choose. They all take turns choosing one until all chores are accounted for.)
Clean my bathroom and the downstairs bathroom. Usually, Carson cleans the boys’ bathroom.
Dust the entire house.
Clean the kitchen.
Vacuum.
Wash the dining room table and chairs.
Clean my bedroom.
Clean the laundry room.
Do the laundry.
I’m not going to go into what I clean in each room. It’s a lot, and I already laid it all out for you in my cleaning planner. (Which you can get very soon in my Etsy shop.)
But some of those chores are assigned to the kids, depending on how old they are.
And that’s it! That’s my weekly cleaning routine.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
Getting started with your stay-at-home mom cleaning schedule
Starting with a stay-at-home mom cleaning schedule requires some essential tools and resources to ensure effective and efficient cleaning.
Here is a list of some basic supplies you’ll need:
Cleaning Solutions: You will need various cleaning solutions for different surfaces, such as glass cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner, and a disinfectant. The Happy Sahm Cleaning Plan has a complete list of cleaners you’ll need.
Microfiber Cloths: These are versatile, reusable, and can be used for dusting, wiping down surfaces, or even mopping.
A Vacuum Cleaner: This is essential for cleaning carpets and floors, and some models even have attachments for furniture and curtains.
A Mop and Bucket: These are necessary for hard surfaces like tile or hardwood floors.
A Broom and Dustpan: These are useful for sweeping up larger debris before mopping.
Scrub Brushes: You’ll need these for tackling tougher stains or grime in the bathroom or kitchen.
Additionally, a Cleaning Planner can be a valuable resource for organizing tasks, setting a schedule, and keeping track of what has been done.
Remember, it’s not about having the most expensive or latest tools, but rather about using what works best for you and your home’s specific needs!
Now that our cleaning supplies are in place, let’s break down the weekly cleaning process into manageable steps!
You can use the one I shared above, or if you’d rather clean during the week than on the weekends, you can give this one a try:
Monday – Dusting: Start your week by dusting all surfaces, including shelves, countertops, and appliances. Don’t forget areas like ceiling fans, window sills, and baseboards. Use your microfiber cloths for this task.
Tuesday – Vacuuming: Vacuum all carpets and rugs in your home. If your vacuum cleaner has attachments for furniture and curtains, use them to ensure thorough cleaning.
Wednesday – Floors: It’s time to give your hard floors some attention. Sweep the floors with your broom and dustpan to collect larger debris, then mop to remove smaller dirt particles and disinfect the surface.
Thursday – Bathrooms: Utilize your bathroom cleaner, scrub brushes, and microfiber cloths to clean the sink, toilet, bathtub, and shower. Remember to disinfect high-touch areas like faucet handles and doorknobs.
Friday – Kitchen: End your weekdays by cleaning the kitchen. Wipe down all surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner, scrub the sink, and stovetop with your scrub brushes, and don’t forget to clean the inside of your microwave.
Weekend – Laundry and Bedding: Use the weekend to handle laundry, change bed linens, and fluff pillows.
Remember, this is just a suggested schedule – feel free to adapt it to your family’s needs and availability.
Use your Cleaning Planner to keep track of your tasks and ensure consistency!!
Frequently Asked Questions
Now, momma, I know you might have some questions bubbling up about this cleaning schedule, and that’s perfectly okay!
We’ve all been there, figuring out the best way to keep our homes sparkling without spending every waking minute cleaning.
Below, I’ve gathered some of the most common questions y’all have been asking. No question is too small or silly!
How many hours should a stay-at-home mom clean?
The amount of time a stay-at-home mom spends cleaning can vary greatly, as every household and family has different needs and routines. Some moms may choose to clean for a few hours each day, while others may dedicate one day per week to deep cleaning tasks.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to find a schedule that works best for you and your family. Remember, don’t feel pressured to clean for an unreasonable amount of time – prioritize you and your family’s well-being first.
Should a stay-at-home mom keep the house clean?
Again, this ultimately depends on your personal preferences and needs. Some moms may feel more comfortable with a tidy and organized home, while others may prioritize spending quality time with their children.
It’s important to find a balance that works for you and your family – don’t strive for perfection, but rather a clean and functional space that allows you to enjoy time with your loved ones.
How do stay-at-home moms keep their house clean?
One way is to create a daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule. This will help you stay on top of tasks and ensure that your home stays clean over time. It’s also helpful to involve your children in age-appropriate cleaning chores and tasks, as this not only teaches them valuable life skills but also lightens your workload.
Decluttering daily and doing a quick tidy-up before bed can make a huge difference, in maintaining a clean home.
Remember to also give yourself grace and take breaks when needed – being a stay-at-home mom is a full-time job, and it’s important to prioritize self-care as well! So, find what works best for you and your family, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed.
Overall, keeping a clean home is important, but it’s equally important to prioritize your and your family’s well-being above all else. So don’t stress about having a clean house every day – focus on creating a happy and healthy environment for you and your loved ones!!
What chores should a stay-at-home mom do?
The answer to this question will vary depending on individual circumstances and preferences. However, some common tasks that stay-at-home moms may typically handle include household cleaning and organization, meal planning and preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, and managing appointments and schedules for the family.
Stay-at-home moms often take on caregiving responsibilities for children or other family members, as well. It’s important for stay-at-home working moms to prioritize and delegate tasks when necessary, in order to avoid becoming overwhelmed with responsibilities. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help or take a break when needed!
Ultimately, the specific chores and responsibilities of a stay-at-home mom may differ from household to household. The key is finding a balance that works best for you and your family.
What is a normal house cleaning schedule?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as every household and family dynamic is unique. Some stay-at-home moms may prefer cleaning on a daily basis, while others may find it more manageable to spread chores out throughout the week.
It’s important to find a schedule that works best for you and your family’s needs. Some tasks, such as deep cleaning, may only need to be done on a weekly or monthly basis.
It’s important to prioritize which tasks are essential for maintaining a clean and healthy home, while also allowing yourself some flexibility and self-care.
How can stay-at-home moms prevent burnout?
Being a stay-at-home mom is a full-time job with no set hours or days off. This can often lead to burnout and exhaustion.
To prevent this, it’s important for stay-at-home moms to set aside time for self-care and relaxation. This can include taking breaks throughout the day, finding a hobby or activity that brings joy, and asking for help when needed.
It’s also important to communicate openly with your partner and family about your needs and boundaries to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Remember, taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your family.

What are some ways to involve children in household tasks?
Involving children in household tasks not only teaches them responsibility and life skills but also helps lighten the load for stay-at-home moms.
Some ways to involve children include assigning age-appropriate chores, turning tasks into games or challenges, and setting up a reward system.
Praise and encourage children for their efforts, even if the task is not done perfectly. This encourages a sense of teamwork and responsibility within the household.
Additionally, involving children in tasks such as meal preparation can also teach them valuable skills while spending time together as a family.
Overall, finding ways to involve children in household tasks can be beneficial for both the stay-at-home mom and the children. So, don’t be afraid to delegate and share responsibilities with your little ones!
How many hours a day should a stay-at-home mom clean?
The amount of time a stay-at-home mom spends cleaning may vary depending on the size and needs of their household.
However, there is no set number of hours that should be dedicated solely to cleaning each day. It’s more important for stay-at-home moms to prioritize their tasks and find a balance between keeping a clean home and taking care of themselves and their family.
This can involve setting a flexible cleaning schedule, breaking up tasks into smaller chunks throughout the day, and seeking help from family members or hiring outside assistance if needed.
Ultimately, the amount of time spent cleaning should not be a source of stress or overwhelm for stay-at-home moms. The key is to find a system that works for you and your family’s needs while also taking care of your own well-being.
Remember, a clean home is important, but it should not be the only responsibility of a stay-at-home mom.
So, find ways to involve your children and share household tasks to make cleaning a team effort rather than solely your burden.
With proper planning and support, you can maintain a clean and happy home while also enjoying quality time with your family.
What is the 6-10 cleaning schedule?
The 6-10 cleaning schedule is a popular method for organizing household chores throughout the week.
It involves breaking up daily cleaning tasks into groups of six to ten and assigning them to specific days of the week.
For example, Monday could be designated for laundry, Tuesday for dusting and vacuuming, Wednesday for deep cleaning bathrooms, Thursday for decluttering and organizing, Friday for meal planning and grocery shopping, and the weekend for rest and catch-up.
This schedule can vary depending on personal preferences and family dynamics, but the overall goal is to spread out cleaning tasks throughout the week to avoid feeling overwhelmed by a large workload all at once.
It can also be adjusted as needed to accommodate other responsibilities or unexpected events.
Ultimately, the 6-10 cleaning schedule can help stay-at-home moms maintain a clean and functional home without sacrificing quality time with their family.
So, don’t be afraid to try different schedules and find what works best for you and your family’s needs.!
Remember, the most important thing is finding balance and not letting cleaning tasks consume all of your time as a stay-at-home mom.
