Why Do You Need a Stay at Home Mom Cleaning Schedule?
Cleaning may not be the most glamorous part of being a stay-at-home mom, but it’s a necessary one. A stay at home mom cleaning schedule comes in handy by breaking down tasks into manageable chunks, allowing you to prioritize and allocate time for cleaning activities effectively.
Imagine the relief when you don’t have to scramble around, trying to do everything all at once. With a plan in hand, you can tackle household chores one step at a time.
A structured stay at home mom cleaning schedule can also make you feel way more accomplished in the day. By creating a clean, organized, and peaceful home, you’re not just cleaning, you’re also creating a nurturing environment for your family!
And the best part? You can get the kids involved, making the process more efficient and fun, all while teaching them valuable life skills.
My Monthly Stay at Home Mom House Cleaning Schedule
Let’s start with monthly cleaning, momma. When you look at your home, it might seem like there’s a mountain of things to clean.
It’s okay! I stay on top of everything by cleaning some things every day, some once a week, and some once a month.
Because not everything needs to be done on a daily basis.
Oh, and then I do some deep cleaning every spring and fall.
And if you want to, you can assign specific days to specific chores, so that every area of your home gets cleaned regularly. This turns cleaning into a routine, rather than a much-dreaded chore. 😉
And don’t forget to get your kids involved! Daily chores, like washing the dirty dishes or taking out the trash are good for them! Pinky swear.
My Monthly Cleaning Tasks
Okay, momma, I actually don’t have a lot of monthly cleaning tasks. I know a lot of moms do, but I do most of my cleaning weekly.
I grew up with “Saturday cleanings” and so that’s what I normally do.
But here’s what my monthly cleaning schedule looks like:
Wash all the bedding, including the dog’s (I know, most people recommend doing it weekly – but we had seven beds at one time! 😆)
Deep clean the fridge and freezer
Deep clean the oven
Wipe out any messy kitchen drawers
Organize closets
Clean the inside of the garbage cans
That’s about it. That’s my monthly stay at home mom cleaning schedule. 🤷🏻♀️
My Weekly Cleaning Schedule for Stay at Home Moms
My weekly stay at home mom cleaning schedule is where I get most of my cleaning done. I’m kind of a neat freak! LOL
Having a weekly cleaning schedule helps you to keep your house clean without feeling overwhelmed.
I clean room by room, so I’ll walk you through how I clean house every weekend.
Kitchen
Put everything that doesn’t belong in the kitchen away, where it belongs.
Wipe down the kitchen counters with an antibacterial all purpose spray (you can make your own or buy my favorite here.)
Wipe down all appliances, such as the toaster, coffee maker, and mixer.
Dust anything that needs dusting; the knife block, any pictures hanging up, shelves, etc.
Clean the inside of the toaster oven, if you have one.
Clean the inside of the fridge and wipe down the outside. (I have a stainless steel fridge, so I actually use Healthy Planet Products stainless steel cleaner. I love it!!)
Wipe down the dishwasher.
Wipe down the outside of the oven.
Scrub the sink.
Clean the garbage disposal. (I run lemon or lime slices through mine.)
Wipe down the cupboard under the sink – I have a garbage can there, and cleaners. It gets kinda gross.
Disinfect doorknobs, light switches, and all handles. I used to use a disinfectant spray for this, but it actually discolors them. Now I simply use an all purpose cleaner.
Wash the kitchen door – inside and out, weather permitting.
Wash windows.
Wash the dining room table and chairs
Sweep and wash the floor.
Living Room(s)
I have a living room, a ‘sitting room’, the downstairs ‘game’ room, and my husband’s den. So I’m gonna lump them all in to ‘living room’ here.
Pick up everything that doesn’t belong here and put it where it belongs.
Dust EVERYTHING. This includes shelves, nic nacs, TVs, gaming consoles, furniture, lamps, decor, tables, hutches, books, albums, etc.
Wash any throw blankets.
Take out any garbages.
Clean and/or sanitize any toys. You can throw them in the dishwasher, spray them with a disinfectant spray, or wipe them down with an all purpose cleaner.
Sanitize door knobs, light switches, and TV remotes.
Wash the doors – inside and out, weather permitting.
Wash the windows
Vacuum couches and chairs.
Vacuum the floor, or sweep and mop it.
Bedrooms
Pick up everything that doesn’t belong here and put it where it belongs.
Put away anything that isn’t in its proper place.
Organize closets.
Dust EVERYTHING. This includes shelves, nic nacs, TVs, gaming consoles, dressers, lamps, decor, tables, bookcases, books, and the bed.
Clean and/or sanitize toys.
Wash any visibly dirty stuffed animals.
Take out any garbages.
Sanitize door knobs, light switches, and TV remotes.
Vacuum couches and chairs.
Vacuum the floor, or sweep and mop it.
Wash the windows.
I used to wash the bedding every week as well. Back before I had so many kids! LOL.
Bathrooms
Put everything that doesn’t belong in the bathroom away, where it belongs.
Wash all bathroom surfaces and the sink.
Wipe down all personal care items on bathroom counters, to remove dust and grime.
Wash the bathroom mirror.
Clean the toilet.
Scrub the tub and shower.
Take out the garbage.
Sanitize door knobs, light switches, and all handles.
Wash the windows.
Sweep and wash the floor.
Entry Way
Pick up everything that doesn’t belong in the entry way and put it where it belongs.
Dust surfaces. This includes shelves, nic nacs, furniture, lamps, decor, tables, hutches, books, candles, etc.
Wash any throw blankets.
Wash coats, hats, gloves, snow pants, etc.
Take out any garbages.
Organize the closet.
Sanitize door knobs and light switches.
Wash the door – inside and out, weather permitting.
Wash the rugs, if able.
Vacuum the floor, or sweep and mop it.
Laundry Room
Pick up everything that doesn’t belong in the laundry room and put it where it belongs.
Dust EVERYTHING. This includes shelves, nic nacs, furniture, lamps, decor, tables, etc.
Wipe down the washer and dryer.
Take out the garbage.
Sanitize door knobs and light switches.
Wash the door – inside and out, weather permitting.
Wash the rugs, if able.
Vacuum the floor, or sweep and mop it.

Stay at Home Mom Cleaning Schedule FAQs
As a stay-at-home mom, you may have plenty of questions about creating the perfect cleaning schedule to fit your busy life. So, I’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you streamline your routine and make the most of your cleaning efforts.
Let’s dive in!
How many hours should a stay at home mom clean?
As a stay-at-home mom, figuring out how many hours to spend on cleaning can be a challenge. Experts suggest aiming for around six hours a week, but it’s not just about the time you put in – it’s about managing your cleaning time effectively.
By setting clear goals and establishing a consistent routine, you can take control of your cleaning time and create a more balanced and organized home.
How do stay at home moms keep their house clean?
So, for stay-at-home moms, keeping a tidy house is all about staying on top of daily chores, maintaining cleanliness in every room, and creating a flexible schedule that’s easy to manage. Tackling household tasks one step at a time and preventing overwhelming clutter buildup is key.
By incorporating these daily tasks into your routine, you can make sure your home stays neat and sanitary every day.
And remember, embracing minimalism, establishing daily routines, planning meals, and grocery shopping are all really great ways to maintain a clean and orderly living space as well.
What is a reasonable cleaning schedule?
A reasonable cleaning schedule is one that fits your lifestyle and is manageable for you. It should include daily, weekly, and monthly tasks that are divided into manageable chunks.
A reasonable cleaning schedule includes:
Assigning different tasks to specific days
Creating checklists for different cleaning frequencies
Balancing basic daily cleaning tasks with extra tasks on certain weeks
The goal is not to clean all the time, but to create a stay at home mom schedule that allows you to maintain a clean and organized home without feeling overwhelmed or stressed.
What is a daily housekeeping checklist?
A daily housekeeping checklist is all about those everyday tasks to keep your place tidy!
Making beds, doing dishes, wiping down surfaces, and sweeping high-traffic areas are a must.
Other tasks that can be added to your daily housekeeping checklist include doing at least one load of laundry every day, decluttering, and taking out the garbage.
By completing these basic tasks every day, you can prevent mess and clutter from piling up and maintain a clean home. It’s all about consistency and developing good habits.
Should a stay at home mom keep the house clean?
Absolutely!
While it’s not solely a stay-at-home mom’s job to keep the house clean, maintaining a clean home can bring lots of benefits, like reducing stress and fatigue, and creating a calm and balanced atmosphere, which ultimately has a positive impact on mental well-being.
Taking pride in maintaining a clean and organized home can go beyond societal expectations. Approaching this responsibility with enthusiasm and dedication can have a positive influence on household and family dynamics, fostering a nurturing and loving environment for your kids.
What is a normal house cleaning schedule?
A normal house cleaning schedule typically includes:
Daily tasks: making beds, checking the floors, cleaning the kitchen, living room, and bathroom, and sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
Weekly tasks: vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting, cleaning windows, and changing bed sheets.
Monthly tasks: deep cleaning appliances, washing curtains and blinds, cleaning light fixtures, and organizing closets.
Weekly tasks could include vacuuming upholstery, wiping out and disinfecting wastebaskets, wiping down surfaces, dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning the bathrooms.
Monthly tasks might focus on areas that need less frequent attention, such as deep cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, dusting surfaces, and cleaning windows.
How do working moms keep the house clean?
Managing cleaning tasks can be a challenge for work at home moms due to their busy schedules. However, with a little planning and prioritization, it’s possible to maintain a clean home.
One way to do this is by setting a specific daily schedule, and prioritizing tasks. You can create an early morning speed clean routine that takes just 30 minutes and helps maintain cleanliness.
Another home management strategy is to delegate tasks to other family members. By sharing responsibilities, you not only increase cleaning efficiency but also balance cleaning tasks with quality family time.
Remember, the goal is not to achieve a perfectly clean house every day, but to create a manageable routine that keeps your home clean and organized.
At the End of the Day…
At the end of the day, a clean and tidy home encourages peace, harmony, and happiness within its walls. It’s not the immaculate floors or the dust-free shelves that make a home inviting, but the moments of laughter, growth, and togetherness shared by the family you love.
As busy moms navigate the balance between an effective cleaning schedule and their busy lives, it is crucial to remember that perfection is not the goal; creating a realistic cleaning routine that accommodates family time and self-care truly reflects a successful and loving household.
